Eileen Neff
A native of Philadelphia, Eileen Neff has been working with photo-based images and installations since 1981. Her work draws on both historic and contemporary concepts of picturing the natural and constructed world, as well as being an investigation of studio practice itself.
The concept behind this piece was to bring nature into the very urban landscape of Fashion District. "Being aware of the fast pace and ubiquitous signage that would characterize any shopping area, I thought to abstract the tree images I worked with so that when they’re viewed from some distance they would unexpectedly suggest an edge of a tree that had slipped into the space, and yet when seen at a closer range, their reading would shift into a more playful idea of nature., and announce its artifice in this particular situation.” – Neff
