Art in the District is a multifaceted art collection providing visitors with a unique opportunity to access and enjoy public art by distinguishing artists with works features in renowned local, national and international museums.
The collection features over $1 Million in commissioned art and includes a mix of installations showcasing contemporary murals, pop art, 3D designs and sculpture, digital photography, and more.
In partnership with the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority’s Percent for Art and curated by Bridgette Mayer of Bridget Mayer Art Advisors, Art in the District focuses on bringing people together and igniting conversation.
Bridgette Mayer, Abridged Curator Statement
When I was selected as the Curator for Art in the District in 2017, I was faced with an immense challenge: creating a compelling public art project that would not get lost in the expansive space that is Fashion District. Rather than pursuing the typical public art model– investing in a single high-profile piece – I decided to create a curated art installation that both the residents of Philadelphia and visitors alike could enjoy, and one that resembled the experience you might get if you went to a museum. This installation features unique pieces from both Philadelphia-based artists and artists from around the world.
